Weekend TV Roundup: Fictional Fake-Outs and Game Show Comebacks

Thursday’s highly anticipated episode of Scandal finally delivered on the promises it half-kept last week. Turning the clock back five days before Quinn was supposedly murdered, the show treated us to one of its classic perspective shifts, letting viewers experience the chaotic timeline through completely fresh eyes. We even got to re-endure a slice of Olivia and Rowan’s infamous “the reckoning is here” dinner. You have to wonder about the logistics of that restaurant. When Rowan books a table, does he demand total isolation? If a wayward waiter caught even a snippet of that Pope family banter, there’d be some serious explaining to do.

The Dinosaur Toy and the Basement

Most of the hour basically featured Rowan screaming at a plastic dinosaur toy. We quickly found out the dino was actually rigged with a live video feed pointing straight to Jake’s treehouse, or wherever B613 is setting up shop these days. Rowan was running out of patience, demanding Olivia hand over his precious dinosaur bones in exchange for Quinn’s life. Since we’d seen this play out already, we knew the initial result: Olivia dragged her feet, and Rowan pulled the trigger.

A Shondaland Miracle

Except, he didn’t. In a classic twist, the episode revealed Rowan only faked the execution. Quinn managed to talk her way out of it, begging him to spare her at least until she gave birth. Miraculously, both mother and baby made it through alive. The guy who helped deliver the kid, unfortunately, wasn’t so lucky. The real damage, though, might be entirely psychological. Quinn overheard Olivia callously asking Rowan for a fake corpse so Huck would finally stop searching for her. Add that to the bizarre hallucinations eating away at Quinn’s sanity in the basement, and her loyalty to her former boss is practically gone. Judging by the promo for next week’s intervention episode, the entire inner circle is starting to feel exactly the same way.

Meanwhile on Unscripted TV: A €100,000 Showdown

While fictional Washington was dealing with basement hostages and fake deaths, the weekend’s unscripted television lineup offered a completely different kind of spectacle. Former pro soccer player Thorsten Legat, 57, walked away with the €100,000 prize on ProSieben’s hit show Schlag den Star. He went head-to-head against 60-year-old fashion designer Harald Glööckler in a truly wild gauntlet of challenges. The two men battled it out in everything from baseball and tricycle racing to wading through streams, but the whole competition ultimately came down to a tense final round of golf putting, where Legat sank the winning shot.

Humor Meets Unfair Odds

Leading up to the broadcast, social media was buzzing with complaints that the matchup was physically unbalanced. Fans hopped on Instagram to point out the obvious disparity, with one viewer noting it almost physically hurt to watch the skewed power dynamics. Despite the perceived disadvantage, Glööckler showed up ready to entertain, turning the night into his own personal comedy special. Right out of the gate, he set the tone by insisting host Matthias Opdenhövel address him formally as “Herr Glööckler.” His reasoning was incredibly straightforward: “Because we haven’t slept together yet.” The studio audience predictably erupted into laughter.

Redemption and Gracious Defeats

For Legat, securing the briefcase was a long time coming. He had previously competed on the show back in 2016 but lost out to choreographer Detlef Soost. Holding his prize, the ex-athlete explained that the victory meant more to him than the cash, framing it as personal proof of his own growth over the last decade. He proudly declared that he has aged like fine wine—perhaps calmer, but definitely just as emotional.

Quick Wits and Traffic Signs

Glööckler took the loss entirely in stride. He graciously told the crowd he was just as thrilled for Legat as he would have been for himself, casually dropping the fact that it wasn’t the first time he’d missed out on a briefcase. Honestly, he spent most of the night playfully sparring with the host anyway. During a game involving spotting fake traffic signs, Opdenhövel made an offhand comment about women not playing soccer. Glööckler immediately jumped on it, sharply reminding the host that women are already disadvantaged enough and demanding he express himself more clearly. It was exactly the kind of sharp, unapologetic energy that won him the respect of the viewers.
